Girl in a Park

She glides slowly at first,
this slight figure skater,
traces an orbit
that tightens with speed
on a sweet-smelling rink,
freshly mown green

flings out her arms,
spins on the spot,
giggles as world whirls,
twirled by her fingers
and blurred by the swirl
in her delicate ears

a spiralling journey
above time and place --
flies ever faster
until she collapses, crash-lands
in a confusion of limbs,
a splash of bright laughter.
